Our WWII event ran on Sept 28th 2013 and despite the wet weather, it was a packed day with plenty to do. The American GI’s arrived at 10am and set up camp on the lawn, alongside the VE Day Party tent. Across the path, our Land Girls helped younger visitors to make lavender bags, parachutes and flags before sending them on a Blitz Survival course. During this session, we managed to avoid the dropping bombs by hiding under the Kitchen table, while some children found wartime jobs around the Farm.
We were also pleased to welcome a number of Cwmbran WWII veterans and happily listened to their stories. Introducing them to our younger visitors was a fantastic outcome to the day and one which no-one will forget for a long time. We hope to repeat this event later next year and for many more years to come.
